Increasing the use of renewable energy is essential to the climate change
solution and supports our overall national strategy of sustainable development. The utilization of renewable fuels helps
to reduce our dependence on energy imports, improves industrial competitiveness, and has a positive impact on regional development
and employment. Naturally replenished, renewable fuels come from the sun, tides, wind, and biomass (wood and plant materials).
150 years ago, 90% of our energy supply was derived from wood. This lost form of energy is making a resurgence.
Our region generates in excess of ten thousand tons
of wood each year from trees that are brought down as a result of natural attrition, storm damage, or construction.
Only a small portion of this is used as firewood or plant bedding. Reclaiming this wood waste is an excellent form of
renewable fuel.
Reclaiming this wood waste is what Oakwood Renewable Energy does.
We use round wood and
wood chips generated by arborists and landscapers. The material is cleaned, chipped, and then dried to a moisture
content of 10% or less.
